In 2010, Professor Jay Vargas began his journey into the world of martial arts.
He was tired of going to the gym. Counting each repetition and weight bored him to death. He needed something exciting. Something competitive to spice up his workout routine. And with a background in wrestling, jiu-jitsu piqued his interest.
After his first class, he was hooked.
Within 3 short months, he started competing in local tournaments as a blue belt. The belt promotion lit a fire inside him, and his teachers encouraged him to compete in his IBJJF Pan Ams in 2011.
After three hard-fought matches, Jay stood at the top of the podium with a gold medal around his neck.
Just a few years later, Jay began experimenting with Judo under the instruction of Sensei Jun and Sensei Skelly at Renzo Gracie in Fort Lee. Cross-training in both disciplines, he competed in both martial arts within the tri-state.
Until a motorcycle accident that took him off the mat for two years.
While Jay slowly recovered from the injuries, he began teaching at Rising Sun BJJ in Ridgefield Park. There, he taught the children's and adult's classes. Leading the team to win tournaments throughout New Jersey.
At this point in his career, his daughter Isabella began training jiu-jitsu alongside her father. This sparked the idea to open Precise BJJ. And that brings us to the present day.
